Asian Handicap

Asian Handicap is, as the name suggests, very popular in Asia and involves giving one team a handicap of a number of goals.

Asian Handicap betting differs from fixed odds betting in a number of ways but the one to remember is that you have a higher chance of a return with the Asian Handicap as you can only bet on two outcomes, the favourite or the underdog. In fixed odds you have three outcomes, home-draw-away.

Lets say that England were playing Germany. The handicaps given to each team are as follows, England (-0.5), Germany (+0.5) which basically means that the figure in the brackets is either added (+) or subtracted (-) from that teams number of goals at the final whistle. In this case England are the favourites as they may be playing at home or have recently had much better results than their opposition.

An example of asian handicap betting

England (-0.5) v Germany (+0.5)
The handicap is only applied to the team you bet on

An example of an asian handicap split ball

Sometimes you will see bookmakers offering odds which have two handicaps and look similar to AC Milan (0,-0.5) v Inter (0,+0.5). These odds are often referred to as split odds and basically half your stake goes on the first part of the odds (before the comma) and the other half on the odds on the other side of the comma.

AC Milan (0,-0.5) v Inter (0,+0.5)
Taking the above as an example:

If you choose AC Milan(0,-0.5) :
